NFL Network: way too many Cowboys

February 5, 2011

Just watching an NFL Network “roundtable.”  The four guests?  Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders, Daryl Johnston and Brian Billick. Three of the four are ex-Cowboys.  The NFL Network, ESPN and other networks go way overboard with all their former Cowboys on TV.  It’s sickening.  At least Emmitt Smith is no longer on ESPN.  He was awful.  It’s bad enough that the Redskins are mediocre. It’s even worse to constantly get Troy Aikman or Johnston as our game announcers.  And of course, every time the NFL Network or ESPN replays old Super Bowls or regular season games, they ignore the Skins and play Dallas, or Green Bay (Favre).

And what about Favre being the 20th best football player ever and Sonny Jurgensen not even making the list on’s list of Top 100 players?  Pathetic.

So sick of Troy Aikman. Get him out of here.

I hate Troy Aikman.  I’m so sick of this guy.  The Redskins have been mediocre for the past 10 years so we always get Aikman as the color commentator for our games.  Today he said that Norv Turner had more success than any of the other Redskins recent coaches. Yes, if you include only his two final seasons under Dan Snyder (18-13).  If you consider Turner’s whole coaching career with the Skins, 49-59-1, it’s pretty bad.  Remember that he had a lot of talent in 2000 too.  And now that I think of it, Joe Gibbs made the playoffs two of his four seasons during his second tour with the team, while Turner made the playoffs one of seven seasons.

Too Many Cowboys on TV – Sick of Them

September 13, 2009

I am so sick of getting either Troy Aikman or Daryl Johnston as our game color commentators.  It’s bad enough that for years we had to listen to Michael Irvin on ESPN, and then Emmitt Smith and now Keyshawn Johnson.  You can’t get away from them.

The former Skins are a lot better on the air — so much more intelligent — whether it’s Mark May or Trevor Matich for college football, or Rick “Doc” Walker or Brian Mitchell on the radio about the Redskins.  Jim Lachey does Ohio State broadcasts.  I would imagine he’s pretty good.  Joe Theismann was a great color commentator on NFL games.  Of course, Sonny Jurgensen and Sam Huff are great on the local radio broadcasts.

The fact is the Skins have been average for a long time so we always get the average announcers like Aikman and Johnson.  To prevent this the Skins will have to start playing a lot better.
